Rigging of the SY Parsifal III

Our shipyard served as a technical base for the rigging of the SY Parsifal III. Drigging, a company from Italy, led the operation to dismantle the yacht’s masts. Port Denia team actively collaborated throughout the process to ensure the project’s success, given its complexity and delicacy.

Derigging Process

The main mast of SY Parsifal III reaches a height of 63 meters. For this reason, we have used a 100-meter crane to lift, maneuver, and transport the masts, especially the main one. A smaller auxiliary crane assisted in this task, especially in turning maneuvers and placing the masts horizontally. We have completed the derigging process by placing the masts in our dry dock on various dollies, which facilitate the masts’ transportation once on land.

We usually perform the rigging while the sailboat remains in the water. This is due to the design of sailboats, which are meant to maintain stability in their natural element.

SY Parsifal III Rigging Project Phases

We can divide the project phases into three parts.

Phase 1, Derigging

We have disconnected and dismantled all rigging parts (including sails), unstepped the masts, and transported them to the dry dock.

Phase 2: Review and Painting

We set up modular spray booths to house and protect the masts. In this phase, we  inspect the masts’ condition and proceed to repair any damages. Then, we prepare the surface: cleaning and sanding, applying several paint coats, and finally sealing and varnishing. The sealing and varnishing provide extra protection, helping to preserve the finish’s quality.  This also protects against elements, including sun exposure, salinity, and physical wear.

Phase 3: Rigging

In this phase, we proceed to step the masts. It’s similar to phase 1 but in reverse order. Once we have assembled the masts and reconnected all rigging parts, the yacht is ready to sail.

The Famous SY Parsifal III Yacht

Known from the series “Below Deck Sailing Yacht”, the SY Parsifal III is a sailing yacht with an aluminum hull, carbon fiber rigging, and a furling boom. It measures 54 meters in length (approximately 177 feet) and 10.7 meters in beam (35 feet). It is powered by a Cat C30 12 engine. Its construction by Perini Navi and interior design by Remi Tessier made this vessel earn the World Superyacht Awards in 2006 for “Sailing Yacht of the Year” and “Best Interior Design – Sail Yacht”.
